Immotion, a global leader in immersive edutainment, is celebrating the success of The Great Migration, its VR documentary film, which has won Best of Show in the Experimental category at the Nature Without Borders International Film Festival.

The Great Migration immerses viewers in one of the most magnificent wildlife spectacles on the planet. Using cinematic virtual reality, motion-platform technology, and educational narratives, the experience follows wildebeests, zebras, and predators as they undertake an extraordinary journey through the Serengeti.

Demonstrating the power of immersive storytelling

The Nature Without Borders International Film Festival recognises films that enhance awareness of environmental and humanitarian issues.

The Experimental category focuses on productions that test the limits of traditional formats to create fresh, visionary content. The Great Migration stood apart for its capacity to emotionally resonate with audiences of all ages through its interactive and sensory-rich experience.

Ken Musen, executive producer at Immotion, says: “This award is a testament to our team’s commitment to innovation and impact. We believe immersive storytelling can change hearts and minds—and this recognition validates that mission.”

The Great Migration was developed as part of Immotion’s expanding catalogue of educational VR films, which support the conservation and educational aims of more than 120 partner organisations globally.

The Best of Show accolade follows awards for Immotion’s film Gorilla Trek at the Lumiere Awards, and The Great Migration at the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival.

In March, Immotion launched virtual reality experience, Dolphins of the Reef, at the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Mid-Year Meeting in Palm Springs, California. Using motion-based virtual reality, the experience transports audiences through the crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea to see colourful coral reefs and pods of bottlenose dolphins.

To create this experience, the company’s Emmy Award-winning creative team spent weeks documenting the behaviours of a pod of 25 dolphins, capturing extraordinary underwater moments using sophisticated VR camera technology.
