Niagara Takes Flight, Ontario’s first flying theatre experience, is set to open at Niagara Parks‘ Table Rock Centre tomorrow (29 August).
The $25 million attraction will take guests high above Niagara Falls’ most iconic locations, also immersing them in the site’s rich culture and history.
Situated inside Niagara Parks’ flagship site, Table Rock Centre, at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls, Niagara Takes Flight features new perspectives of Niagara Falls, captured over six months via custom-built drones.
During the ride experience, guests are suspended in gondola-style seats as they enjoy state-of-the-art motion programming, sensory effects like wind, mist and scent, and a 17-metre-wide, 180-degree dome screen.
Highlights also include an entrance marquee with a digital waterfall, and four audiovisual (AV) rooms that reveal 13,000 years of Niagara’s history.
Additionally, the flying theatre attraction includes a pre-show experience with narration by Avatar and Titanic director James Cameron.
Ontario’s first flying theatre experience
“It was a pleasure and honour to lend my voice to a project that celebrates the falls and the city I grew up in. My first job at the age of 16 was working for the Niagara Parks Commission, so this closed that loop, 55 years later,” said Cameron.
Disney Imagineer Rick Rothschild, a principal creator of the world’s first flying theatre ride, Disneyland’s Soarin’ Over California, served as creative director on Niagara Takes Flight.
Brogent Technologies Inc., a leading manufacturer of media-based attractions, oversaw the ride construction and overall attraction development.
“Niagara Takes Flight offers guests the extraordinary sensation of soaring above Niagara Falls, an unparalleled experience that sets this attraction apart on the global stage,” said Chih-Hung Ouyang, chairman and CEO, Brogent Technologies.
“This project merges technology and storytelling to deepen the emotional connection that people have with one of the world’s most celebrated destinations.”
Bob Gale, chair of Niagara Parks, added: “Niagara Takes Flight captures the essence of our world-renowned natural and cultural heritage and we are proud to now share it with our guests for the first time.”
