The Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World is getting a new colour palette inspired by its classic and original look, Disney announced at D23.
Magic Kingdom’s iconic castle will return to its grey, cream, blue and gold colour palette, replacing the pink and blue colours that Disney World installed ahead of its 50th anniversary.
Via a blog post, the project team is still putting the finishing touches on the paint design process, but new concept art of the updated attraction can be viewed below.
For example, the paint has to undergo accelerated UV and weather testing to simulate years of sun exposure and ensure that the castle’s colours remain vivid for many years.
When it comes to locations like the castle’s roofs, Disney utilises a high-performance paint normally used for cars to reduce the need for touch-ups.
As for achieving the castle’s lustre, Disney uses higher gloss on elements like the rooftops and gold accents to give them a decorative sparkle, and gold is used strategically around the spires to catch reflections of sunlight.
Disney’s D23 announcements
At the D23 fan event over the weekend, Disney made a series of announcements for its parks, including a spring 2026 opening for the World of Frozen land at Disneyland Paris.
At the resort’s Walt Disney Studios Park, soon to be Disney Adventure World, Imagineers have completed the installation of Elsa’s Ice Palace on top of the North Mountain.
Disney also revealed that the design of Magic Kingdom’s villains land has been influenced by the Art Nouveau style of architecture in Europe.
Additionally, an audio-animatronic figure of Walt Disney is coming to Magic Kingdom.
