Architecture

Architecture is the art and technique of designing and creating buildings. It is both the process and the result of sketching, envisioning, planning, designing, and constructing buildings or other structures. Architectural works are frequently regarded as works of art, and cultural symbols and architecture from past civilizations are frequently used to define them now.

In the attractions industry, architects are often called on to help design new museums, theme parks, zoos, aquariums, FECs, and more. Each sector has distinct requirements. For instance, when designing new zoo buildings, allowing guests to feel like they are getting up close and personal with the animals is a key consideration. Designers must also ensure that the habitats meet or exceed the appropriate animal welfare standards.

Theme park architecture must allow for good crowd flow. It also often includes intricate or detailed theming so the building is in keeping with the rest of the environment. Meanwhile, museums often need designs that allow for the right conditions to store their valuable objects and works of art. They require particular temperature controls, for example. Like theme parks, the architecture of museums needs to allow for a good flow of visitors. These buildings are also often designed to be light and airy.

Recently, there have been more regulations that focus on establishing sustainability when creating new buildings. For instance, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is a green building certification program used worldwide. In addition, different countries may also have their own specific sustainability requirements.
