Balppa

BALPPA stands for The British Association Association of Leisure Parks, Piers and Attractions, and has more than 300 members including operators, trade suppliers and service providers, from across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

The UK’s commercial leisure parks, piers, zoos, family entertainment centres, and visitor attraction industry are represented by the non-profit BALPPA trade association, which was founded in 1936. Its distinctive logo is recognisable as the outline of a carousel horse.

BALPPA works with other industry bodies and associations to lobby on behalf of the sector, in a bid to support the wider leisure community and help guarantee the ongoing success of the industry. Some key organisations BALPPA has ties within this area include BACTA, IAAPA, VisitEngland and the Responsible Gambling Trust.

The organisation also regularly publishes safety bulletins and other resources which update members on legislation, regulations and operating guidance, specific to the UK market. BALPPA acted as a point of contact during the COVID-19 pandemic, where extra health and safety measures were required to be put in place by law.

BALPPA states its principal aims are to represent the needs and concerns of the industry; to promote safe practices; to promote and defend industry interests; to provide members with advice, information and services; to support the sharing of ideas, professionalism and profitability; and to act as an authoritative source of information concerning the industry to the media and other opinion formers.

Leading the organisation, BALPPA has a management committee made up of a mix of operators and supplier personnel, as well as dedicated subgroups. Members often network at events including an Annual Dinner and AGM, Summer Conference, Autumn Conference, Member Receptions and sub-group calls and meetings.

More information on BALPPA, including the association’s upcoming events and how to become a member, can be found on the association’s website.
