Lionsgate executive vice president and head of global LBE, Jenefer Brown, has revealed plans to develop exhibitions, experiences and live events based on The New York Times Magazine’s 1619 Project during the first blooloop V-Expo.
It was previously confirmed that Oprah Winfrey, The New York Times and Lionsgate were partnering on a series of feature films, television shows, and other content based on The 1619 Project and hit podcast, 1619.
“From the first moment I read The 1619 Project and immersed myself in Nikole Hannah-Jones‘s transformative work, I was moved, deepened and strengthened by her empowering historical analysis,” said Winfrey.
Exhibitions and experiences based on 1619 Project
Speaking exclusively at the blooloop V-Expo, Brown has now teased that her team at Lionsgate is exploring “ways to bring the work of The 1619 Project to communities everywhere”.
“So that is something that we’re looking at doing, through exhibitions and experiences, and perhaps live events,” she confirmed.
Brown, who oversees interactive games, location-based entertainment and live entertainment, also said “without hesitation” that she would like to expand the world of John Wick, played by Keanu Reeves.
“John Wick is a really important growing franchise for Lionsgate,” said Brown. “We’ve already announced two more films in the pipeline, a spin-off film, a TV series, we have video games.
“And I think that for location-based entertainment, it’s a world that we really want to explore. There are so many layers, it’s steeped in mythology.
“I think all of it lends itself really well to location-based entertainment,” she said. “So that’s definitely an intellectual property we’re excited to look at, moving forward.”

She said there are other properties in Lionsgate’s film slate that “would be great to immerse guests in”, adding that “we also have a lot happening in horror”.
“Cobweb is one of them that I’m excited about,” said Brown. “And a few others that I can’t mention yet, and I think that we have definitely seen more of a demand for year-round horror.
“So I’m excited that we’re going to fill that void with some really new, great content.”
