Plans have been revealed for a huge zip wire attraction across Cardiff Bay, with “unique” views of the waterfront.

Two zip wires would launch from the roof of St David’s Hotel, crossing the bay before landing in front of the Norwegian Church.

A planning application says the zip wire will start from a “purpose-built platform” on the roof of St David’s Hotel.

It continues: “Two zip wires will take riders on a fast aerial journey over 350m to land on a 12m platform in Britannia Park – at an exciting but safe gradient of 7.5%.

“From the launch platform and throughout the flight, riders enjoy unique views of the location and much of the Cardiff skyline.

“Visitors will enjoy watching the event and the hotel should benefit from friends and family or riders using the hotel for accommodation and refreshments.”

The zip wires would accommodate 48 people per hour and operate for 26 weeks between July and January. Zip Now, the company behind the project, estimates it could attract 65,000 people.

Cardiff councillors are expected to consider the application in the coming months.

Zip World attractions in Wales

Earlier this year, Zip World revealed the site of its new adventure park in South Wales – its first attraction outside of North Wales.

Valued at £45 million, Zip World runs adventure experiences across three locations in North Wales. Activities include ziplines, an alpine rollercoaster, treetop adventure courses and subterranean playgrounds.

Blooloop previously spoke to Zip World co-founder Sean Taylor about the company’s community-minded business model that’s breathing new life into one of Britain’s most deprived areas.
