The WAZA Carbon Guide and more

Judy Mann headshot

Judy Mann is Chair of the WAZA Conservation and Sustainability Committee and Executive- Strategic Projects at Two Oceans Aquarium. She is passionate about the ocean and started her career in 1992 with the South African Association for Marine Biological Research. She held various roles there, including being its first female Chief Executive Officer.

Mann is also President of the International Zoo Educators Association. She holds a Master’s Degree in Ichthyology, a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and PhD in Culture and Environmental Learning from the University of Queensland in Australia.

Helen Lockhart headshot

Helen Lockhart is a member of the WAZA Carbon Subcommittee and is Conservation and Sustainability Manager at Two Oceans Aquarium. In this role, she is responsible for managing the environmental impact of the Aquarium. This means that she has developed and implemented its sustainability strategy to minimise its ecological footprint as well as raising staff and public awareness about sustainability through the Aquarium’s exhibits and communication platforms.

Lockhart contributed to WAZA’s Guide on Reducing, Measuring and Offsetting Carbon and WAZA’s short guide on How To Reduce Single-Use Plastic At Your Zoo Or Aquarium.

In their session, Mann will give an overview of WAZA’s sustainability strategy, explaining how its committees are set up and how they produce reports like the Carbon Guide. Lockhart will then go into the guide in more detail, showcasing how any attraction can use it as a basis to measure and reduce their carbon footprint.

This session is a must for small organisations in any sector looking to start measuring their carbon footprints, but also for trade associations or groups wanting to create guidance for their members.

The session will take place at 2pm BST, 25 April.

Why should you attend greenloop?

All visitor attractions need to decarbonise and become more sustainable. greenloop provides practical and actionable advice as well as case studies for attendees.

When it comes to solving really big challenges, like how do we build sustainable theme parks, resorts and cruise ships around the world, it takes all of us and all of these different industries coming together.

And that’s what’s great about greenloop … our collaboration is key to really think about how we build sustainable themed entertainment experiences.

Emily Dow, Design Studio Executive, Walt Disney Imagineering, at greenloop 2021

greenloop provides a space to connect sustainability leaders from across the visitor attractions industry to enable us to move more quickly towards a sustainable future.

greenloop is a must-attend event, crossing boundaries to bring together really thought-provoking insights and ideas around the way visitor attractions can not only minimise their environmental impact on the planet, but also act as catalysts for positive change.

I cannot think of another event which goes near greenloop as a concentrated dollop of practical green inspiration – a must-attend for several of our team.

Dominic Hare, CEO Blenheim
