In detail

greenloop is Blooloop’s conference focussing on sustainability in visitor attractions. Learn from leaders sharing their sustainability experiences at the ONLY sustainability conference specifically for the whole industry.

In the week after Earth Day 2023, Blooloop will host our third greenloop conference – April 25-26, 2023. This online event will bring together leading sustainability professionals from the world’s major museums, theme parks, zoos and other visitor attractions. They will share latest trends and developments, highlight best practices, foster meaningful connections and inspire us all to become more sustainable in our businesses and help protect the planet.

With all visitor attractions needing to decarbonise and become more sustainable, the event will be provide knowledge, practical actions and case studies for our attendees, as well as inspirational insights from industry leaders.

When it comes to solving really big challenges, like how do we build sustainable theme parks, resorts and cruise ships around the world, it takes all of us and all of these different industries coming together.

And that’s what’s great about greenloop … our collaboration is key to really think about how we build sustainable themed entertainment experiences

Emily Dow, Design Studio Executive with Walt Disney Imagineering at greenloop 2021

Something for everyone

We’ve worked hard to put together a schedule that caters to every interest and level of expertise. We have inspirational speakers, hot topics, practical advice and case studies as well as smart networking. From carbon guides to climate protests, we have something for everyone.

Check out some of our topics and speakers below:

  • Want to get started but don’t know how? – Hear from two WAZA board members as they discuss the WAZA Carbon Guide (a free resource for any organisation to use) and how to measure and reduce your carbon as well how trade associations can provide guidance for members. Planet Mark will demystify Net Zero and give some top tips for decarbonisation. We also have case studies from operators with real world experience of reducing GHG emissions.
  • Why sustainability matters – hear from ADV as they present the 2023 Sustainability Tracker report which looks at the attitudes that visitor attraction visitors have about sustainability and how this influences their domestic and attraction purchasing decisions. We also have Merlin Entertainments discussing the economics of sustainability.
  • Suppliers – Disney is now measuring Scope 3 emissions and has said that by 2027 80% of suppliers will need to have Science Based Targets! And they are not alone. Find out what this means for you direct from Walt Disney Imagineering, and learn about policy trends from PlanetMark. Find out how to get started measuring and setting targets with WAZA.
  • Green energy – We’ll talk to Lund Gruppen, Efteling and Eden Project about the latest innovations in green energy for operators.
  • Theme park case studies – We have Walt Disney Imagineering, Merlin Entertainments, Efteling, Meow Wolf, Sim Leisure, Lund Group, Forrec, WhiteWater, Liseberg and PortAventura.
  • Museum speakers – We have Ecomusée Tata Somba, Museums Galleries Scotland, The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust talking about cultural climate action. Meow Wolf will tell us about being a BCorp. And Sarah Sutton from Environment & Culture Partners and Patrick Hamilton from Science Museum of Minnesota will give us an overview of what’s happening in US museums.
  • Understanding radical action – We will talk to Just Stop Oil to understand more about radical climate protests, as well as speaking to Prof Colin Davis about the behavioral psychology behind climate apathy and extreme protests.
  • Zoo and Aquarium speakers – We have WAZA, the Eden Project and Two Oceans Aquarium.
  • Sustainability 101 – We will include content covering climate buzz words and the basics to get everyone up to speed.
  • Positive tipping points – We’re very excited to have Prof Tim Lenton talk to us about a source of hope; how positive tipping points could combine to accelerate decarbonisation.

greenloop is a must-attend event, crossing boundaries to bring together really thought-provoking insights and ideas around the way visitor attractions can not only minimise their environmental impact on the planet, but also act as catalysts for positive change.

I cannot think of another event which goes near greenloop as a concentrated dollop of practical green inspiration – a must-attend for several of our team.
