Ibrahim Tchan, Director and Co-Founder of Ecomusée Tata Somba, will speak at greenloop 2023.
Blooloop is hosting the third greenloop sustainability in visitor attractions conference from 25 to 26 April, online. This unique cross-sector event brings together leading sustainability professionals from the world’s major museums, theme parks, zoos and other visitor attractions. They will share strategy insights and lessons learned to inspire us all to become more sustainable in our businesses and help protect the planet.
Speakers announced to date include WAZA, Disney, Merlin, the Science Museum of Minnesota, Efteling, PortAventura, Museums Galleries Scotland, Two Oceans Aquarium, Just Stop Oil and more.
Learning from the past
The Ecomusée Tata Somba is the first ecological museum in West Africa. Ibrahim has worked on the traditional techniques and construction materials used in Tata Somba architecture. As well as being the director and co-founder of the museum, he is also a steering committee member of the Climate Heritage Network and is the Africa region representative within the Climate Heritage Network’s Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction.
Ibrahim started to coordinate a cultural landscape preservation project after Koutammakou, the Land of the Batammariba was included in the 2020 World Monuments Watch. He is also active in several projects that involve the local communities, and he designed ConP’Art, a didactic tool that helps to educate children on African world heritage.
Ibrahim will be talking about his work with the community to share knowledge about traditional building techniques across generations which will help mitigate and adapt to climate change. He says that the aim is “to learn from the past to have a solution for tomorrow”.

Standard tickets are £75 each at the early bird rate. Our £175 early bird group ticket for visitor attraction operators and institutions allows up to 10 attendees for each group ticket for only £17.50 for each attendee at the super early bird rate.
Recordings of the live event will be available afterwards for ticket holders for a limited time.
