Telelogos, a software publisher that creates digital signage solutions to improve the customer and employee onsite experience for retail and leisure attractions around the world, now uses the EcoWatt service in France to help its customers consume electricity more responsibly. This service, provided by the electricity transmission network, makes consumption peaks visible, in real-time, providing people and businesses the opportunity to anticipate and adapt their energy consumption in a responsible way.
And this initiative isn’t just something for French customers. Telelogos’ software will have this capability anywhere that the information exists, connecting the info to the software in order to set different actions, depending on the status. For instance, reacting to the current energy consumption by reducing light intensity, turning off screens etc.
In France, the EcoWatt public app makes this info easy to access, and it is hoped that other countries will follow suit.
Media4Display automatically responds to energy consumption surges
Telelogos has a commitment to sustainability, which is why it has adapted its Media4Display software to the EcoWatt service and added this new capability. Now, it is possible to trace in the Media4Display, in real-time, the information shared by the EcoWatt service thanks to its API. Customers can then trigger actions according to the current power grid situation.
Users can set the Media4Display software to automatically reduce the brightness of all their screens when the state of the electrical network changes on the EcoWatt service. This action can also be combined with the automatic display of a banner at the bottom of the content, meaning that visitors are aware of the situation and the process. This also means that users have the ability to trigger the broadcast of dedicated media in order to remind people to make more responsible choices when it comes to their energy consumption.
It is also possible to cut off non-essential screens for an extreme peak of consumption, allowing Telelogos customers to save more electricity during periods of network overload. The system will automatically turn the screens back on when this period of overuse ends.
This new capability has applications in the attractions industry, allowing operators to reduce the light intensity of their digital screens and communicate about their current consumption and the efforts they are making in order to be more sustainable. It also helps them to encourage their visitors to think more about their own energy consumption as well.
Small actions make a big difference
When energy consumption is at its peak, all available electricity is mobilised to meet the needs of the network. Yet this is sometimes not enough, for instance in cold peaks – there is a 2400 MW increase in consumption for each degree that the temperature falls. This can lead to local cuts. However, moderating consumption can lessen the load.
If all French households heated with electricity lowered the temperature by one degree on average, the country would be able to save 1.3 GW during the morning rush hour, which is equivalent to the consumption of a city like Marseille.
Last year, Telelogos helped Parc Asterix to implement new digital screens around the park, in order to improve the guest experience and support its operational teams.
