Disney’s investment plans are broken down in a new financial report

Disney is to spend $30 billion on its theme parks over the next decade as part of a total $60bn investment in its parks, experiences and products division.

Disney’s investment plans over the next 10 years were broken down in a new filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, per a report in the Los Angeles Daily News.

According to the SEC filing, $30bn will be spent on Disney’s theme parks and resorts, while $18bn will go towards technology and maintenance. The remaining $12bn will fund new Disney Cruise Line ships.

The $30bn for theme parks will be used to create new experiences using intellectual properties like Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars.

Additionally, $42bn of the overall investment would be spent on projects to expand the capacity of Disney’s theme parks and cruise line. Disney has more than 1,000 acres of developable space at its theme parks across the globe.

In a recent post-earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed the company’s investment plans. “We’re already hard at work determining where we’re going to place our new investments and what they will be,” he said.

“You can pretty much conclude that there’ll be all over – meaning every single one of our locations will be the beneficiary of increased investment and thus increased capacity – including on the high seas, where we’re currently building three more ships.”

He added, “I’m not going to give you much more of a sense of timing, except that we’re hard at work at getting these things conceived and built.

“We’ve got a menu of things that will basically start opening in 2025, and there will be a cadence every year of additional investment and increased capacity.”

Meanwhile, the $1.9bn DisneylandForward expansion plan is advancing following an Anaheim Planning Commission vote this week.
