Independence Seaport Museum has been awarded a $1.2 million grant from the William Penn Foundation.
The grant will go towards the next phase of planning for River Alive!, a new interactive exhibition showcasing the science, ecology and stewardship of the Delaware River watershed. In addition the money will be used for upgrades and expansion of the Museum’s docks.
This grant is in addition to an earlier award from the William Penn Foundation to support action and communication around clean water and the preservation of waterways.
Independence Seaport Museum, located on the Delaware River waterfront, aims to deepen understanding of Philadelphia’s waterways and maintains one of the largest maritime collections in North America
Commenting on the grant award, John Brady, President and CEO, said, “Independence Seaport Museum is honored to receive this grant, which recognizes our role as a cultural and educational gateway to the Delaware River and watershed.
