Canada’s no.1 amusement park opens the gates for its 150th anniversary season. A new thrill ride is promised, to be followed a month later by a new addition to the neighbouring Splash Works waterpark.
Soaring Timbers – pictured above – at Canada’s Wonderland is the only attraction of its kind in North America. This Mondial Inferno churns riders on two massive gondolas. As the ride’s main arm sweeps through the sky, the adjoined gondolas twist and turn in opposite directions. It’s an intense ride experience.
The machine, one of only a handful ever manufactured by Mondial, formerly travelled on the European fair circuit. Ahead of its public debut at Canada’s Wonderland it gets a fresh colour scheme, rocky mountain theming, and a few less lights.
New waterpark thrills await
Visitors seeking waterpark thrills will have to wait until May 27. When Splash Works reopens it will feature a new attraction in the shape of Muskoka Plunge. This towering 60ft tall (18.3m) slide complex offers “the ultimate adrenaline rush”. Guests enter an enclosed launch chamber and anxiously wait before the floor drops away. They then plummet into a high-speed slide experience including a series of s-curves and a 360° loop.
In celebration of its 150th birthday, Canada’s Wonderland will be showcasing one of the biggest entertainment programmes in its history this July. Celebration Canada 150 will feature Free-Style Ski Aerials , West Coast Lumberjacks, Live Canadian Bands, White Pine Dancers, Northern Reflections Laser, Light and Sound Spectacular, Cirque Canadian and more.
Special events return for Canada’s Wonderland anniversary season
Special events and street festivals are also planned for this special anniversary season. Returning for the 2017 season are the Ultimate Thrills Circus, Chinese Acrobats, Brew & BBQ Festival, Taste of Greece, Taste of Italy, Foodtruck Festival, Oktoberfest and KidZfest.
“Each year, we strive to provide our guests with fun-filled memories and unique thrilling attractions,” says Canada’s Wonderland vice-president and general manager, Norm Pirtovshek. “For our 150th anniversary season, we wanted to capture the Canadian spirit with a full entertainment experience .”
