Geotourist has teamed up with writer and broadcaster, Ghillie Basan, to create a food and drink audio trail through Cairngorns National Park, Scotland.
Basan lives in the Cairngorms where she hosts international cookery workshops and whisky experiences.
“I like to welcome people to my home to share what I have and bring my knowledge and stories alive in my books, cookery workshops and whisky experiences to give visitors an unforgettable experience,” says Basan.

“I was honoured to be asked by Geotourist to do this on an app and it gave me the opportunity to turn the idea into a trail and include others. More trails like this would be beneficial to small businesses and could highlight what’s going on in the different regions of Scotland.”
Last year, she won an Innovation in Tourism award at the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards and represented the region at the Scottish Thistle Awards National Final held in March.
Geotourist sponsors the Innovation in Tourism award. The company is working in partnership with the category’s 2017/18 five national finalists, with tours and trails currently in production all over Scotland.
Audio trail ends at Basan’s croft and whisky barn
Visitors can download the Cooking in the Cairngorms with Ghillie trail via the Geotourist app, available from Google Play and the App Store. The tour begins at Dalwhinnie, taking in Aviemore and the Glenlivet and Braeval distilleries among its nine stops. It finishes at Basan’s croft and whisky barn, the venue for her workshops.

“We are delighted to be working with Ghillie and helping her to tell her story,” states Shaon Talukder, CEO at Geotourist.
“At the heart of Ghillie’s tour – and, indeed, what reflects so very clearly why Ghillie is a regional Thistle winner – is that Ghillie has brought the landscape around her to life and given it reach far beyond its physical boundaries. At Geotourist, we relate to that philosophy wholeheartedly.”
