Japan’s Tokyo Disney Resort has revealed that Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea have welcomed a combined total of 800 million visitors since opening in 1983 and 2001.
Tokyo Disney Resort’s 800 millionth visitor arrived on February 26, 2022. Tokyo Disneyland opened on April 15, 1983. Tokyo DisneySea launched later on September 4, 2001.
Kenji Yoshida, representative director, president and COO of Oriental Land Co Ltd, thanked the “countless guests” who have visited the resort, as well as the cast members and the Walt Disney Company.
Yoshida said Tokyo Disney Resort has “brought happiness to our guests for more than 38 years”, adding that the destination “will continue to evolve” with the Toy Story-themed hotel and Fantasy Springs.
Tokyo Disney expansion plans
Tokyo Disney Resort Toy Story Hotel is set to launch on April 5. Guests will feel like they’ve been shrunk to the size of a toy, with highlights including a jigsaw puzzle-inspired floor and a ceiling designed to look like a board game.
Fantasy Springs, Tokyo DisneySea’s eighth port, will feature three lands inspired by Frozen, Peter Pan and Tangled. Attractions will include Rapunzel’s tower, Neverland and Arendelle Castle.
“We will continue our efforts at Tokyo Disney Resort to be a themed resort unlike any other,
and hope that you look forward to visiting us,” Yoshida said.
Meanwhile, the largest expansion in Tokyo Disneyland’s history opened in September 2021 at Toontown, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Attractions are inspired by Beauty and the Beast, Minnie Mouse and Big Hero 6.
