Therme Manchester will feature an urban beach, next-gen water park and the world’s first ‘living waterslides’.

Plans to start work on the £250 million Therme Manchester development at TraffordCity have progressed, with Peel L&P preparing to clear the current EventCity site.

Property developer Peel L&P has submitted plans to Trafford Council to demolish the 28,000-square-metre EventCity space to make way for Therme Manchester.

James Whittaker, Peel L&P’s executive director of development, said Therme Manchester is “an attraction like no other”. He said the resort will focus on “sustainability, health and wellbeing”.

Therme Manchester will feature an all-season urban beach, next-generation water park, thermal bathing and a wellbeing spa. Highlights also include immersive digital art, an urban farm and botanical gardens.

In addition, Therme Manchester will include the world’s first ‘living waterslides’, as well as 35 water slides, 25 pools, and 30 saunas and steam rooms.

The resort is being built by Therme Group, a global developer and operator of wellbeing destinations. The attraction will combine nature, sustainable technology and culture.

“We are delighted to have reached this critical stage with Peel L&P, which marks the beginning of on-site works for Therme Manchester,” said Richard Land, chief development officer for Therme Group UK.

He said the project “solidifies our vision for 90 percent of the UK to be within easy reach of a Therme destination, with future developments planned for Glasgow, London and other key cities”.

TraffordCity is currently home to shopping centres and an indoor snow centre called Chill Factore. It also includes Dino Falls Adventure Golf and Trafford Golf Centre, and will soon feature a £60 million surf centre called Modern Surf.

The construction of Therme Manchester is scheduled to start next year. It will take around two years to build. Elsewhere, Therme is developing new venues in Glasgow, New York City, Toronto and Frankfurt.
