Drayton Manor in Staffordshire, UK is closing its thrilling Apocalypse drop tower ride as part of the resort’s investment and expansion plans.
Opened in 2000, Apocalypse is being retired after 30 October. It is also available after dark as the ‘Zombie Apocalypse’ during the park’s ‘Night at the Manor’ experiences for Halloween.
“We know how much our brave riders have loved boarding Apocalypse since it first opened 22 years ago, so we’re calling all thrill-seekers to enjoy one last chance to ride this October half-term,” said Drayton Manor’s managing director, Victoria Lynn.
Lynn said it has “always been such an honour to have the world’s first-ever stand-up drop tower ride right here at Drayton Manor Resort, and while it’s the end of an era for Apocalypse, we have big plans in the pipeline to expand our offering and make the resort as exciting as possible for our guests”.
UK park’s future development plans
“We can’t wait to reveal our new developments in due course,” she added.
After closing its gravity-defying Pandemonium ride in 2021 as part of its development plans, Drayton Manor unveiled a new look.
Lynn said the rebrand “frames the future direction of the resort perfectly, with a shift in focus over the coming years”.
Drayton Manor Resort’s new ‘Vikings’ land opened in May. It is home to the ‘Thor’ and ‘Loki’ thrill rides, the new ‘Walhalla’ restaurant, and Viking-themed hotel rooms.
Elsewhere, the Slingshot Group has announced that it will remove the Orlando FreeFall ride at ICON Park, from which 14-year-old Tyre Sampson fell to his death in March.
