Deadline for those interested in hosting the 2024 event is 8 December 2022

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), the global alliance of regional associations, national federations and institutions, is inviting its Institution Members to submit bids for the 79th WAZA Annual Conference, which will take place in November 2024.

Interested parties will need to submit an application form, alongside a letter of interest from both the institution and the city, detailing their motivation to host the conference. They will also need to send a short presentation or video in support of their proposal.

Host institution to be decided for 2024 event

The WAZA Annual Conference brings together professionals from leading zoos and aquariums as well as experts from diverse fields, for an opportunity to discuss key issues for the global zoo and aquarium community.

The deadline for submissions is 5 pm CET (GMT+1) on 8 December 2022. Members are encouraged to apply early so that the WAZA Office can review the submissions and confirm if they are valid in due time.

The initial review of applications will then be done by the WAZA Office from December 2022 to January 2023, before the WAZA Council evaluates the shortlisted applications from January to February 2023. The successful host will be revealed in February or March 2023.

Details regarding the requirements for hosting a WAZA Conference may be found here. For more information, please schedule a meeting with the WAZA team here or send your enquiries via email.

The 77th WAZA Annual Conference took place from 23 – 27 October 2022 in Tenerife, Spain, hosted by Loro Parque. Over the course of the event, attendees explored important issues for the zoo & aquarium community. WAZA’s Tania Kahlon provided a summary of the conference for blooloop.

The association also announced the winners of its sustainability and conservation awards at the 77th WAZA Annual Conference, including the WAZA Conservation Award which honours a remarkable and thorough conservation programme.
