Event, the experience design agency, is celebrating the success of its exhibition design for the Burrell Collection, which has been shortlisted in the 2023 Design Week Awards.
The annual Design Week Awards recognise outstanding design across 31 categories, which reflect key areas within the industry. The shortlisted entries have been selected by a panel of 46 independent judges, which include Astrid Stavro, vice president at Collins, Elliott Hsu, principal designer at Microsoft, and Matt Quinn, director at Squint/Opera.
Shortlisted entries were announced on 14 June.
Recognition for the Burrell Collection
Event’s exhibition design for the Burrell Collection has earned them a place on the prestigious shortlist, which features seven projects in this category.
The firm was responsible for this project from developing the masterplan for the refurbishment through to the exhibition design.
The finished project features vastly extended exhibition spaces inspired by the architecture of the building, with sustainable, flexible display systems and innovative displays with a particular focus on engaging the under 5s.
Abby Coombs, associate director, Event, says: “We are so proud of the recognition that the renewed Burrell Collection is receiving. This was a dream project for Event with an ambitious client team, an internationally recognised collection, and a beautiful location.
“Our challenge from the masterplan stage onwards was to open up this Glasgow institution in every way and transform it into a beacon of accessibility. Our approach to the design was a careful balance of theatrical gestures using colour and media, with displays that combine elegant detailing, precision engineering and a timeless aesthetic to ensure longevity and future flexibility. We are happy to see the Burrell Collection retaking its rightful place as a much-loved destination for Glasgow communities and their visitors.”
Event recently celebrated the opening of the Carl Nielsen Museum in Odense, Denmark. The firm created a brand new, immersive visitor experience in partnership with Odense City Museums and Copenhagen University.
