The American Alliance of Museums (AAM), will host a two-day virtual event this November, looking at the future of the museum sector.
“Our sector, and our world, is changing faster than ever, and it’s never been more important to think about the future than in this volatile but hopeful time,” says the organisation. “The Future of Museums Summit themes get right at the heart of some of this change: worrying partisan divides, accelerated digital evolutions, changing workplace norms, and renewed efforts in repatriation and restitution.”
Attendees will explore topics such as how to build the workforce that they need while also creating more equitable labour practices, and how to build bridges and encourage tolerance in order to strengthen democracy. The event will also look at digital practice and discuss emerging technologies such as generative AI, and delegates will talk about the topic of repatriation, restitution, and reparations.
Building a more resilient future
“Using the profound disruptions of the past several years, museums can create a better, more equitable, and resilient future,” adds AAM.
The virtual event takes place from 1 – 2 November 2023, from 1 pm to 5 pm ET. Registration is now open, with the current early bird rate set to end on Friday 15 September. For more information and to register for the Future of Museums Summit, please click here.
This year’s American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo took place in Denver, Colorado. During the event, museum professionals from across the sector were able to learn and connect, with a packed agenda of educational sessions. Meanwhile, the MuseumExpo featured a full trade show floor with exhibitors from across the industry.
Former AAM president and CEO, Laura Lott, stood down in June of this year, taking up a new role at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Brooke Leonard, AAM chief of staff, is currently serving as interim CEO while the Board searches for the next leader of the organisation.
