PGAV, a global leader in the planning and design of unique destinations, has announced the release of a new report, Creating Family Memories: Making Attractions Visits Unforgettable which explores the connection between attractions and the formation of enduring family memories.  According to this study, creating memories with family is a crucial part of visiting attractions. Visits are essential for spending quality time together and collecting memories that will be woven into the family’s story.

It has been fifteen years since PGAV conducted a thorough investigation into the factors that inspired families to travel together and what caught their attention during that time. From diverse family tapestries to modern technology for navigating attractions, a lot has changed. This paper looks more closely at how these changes affect family experiences when they travel and explore together and create invaluable memories.

Key findings

Key findings from the report include:

  • Who plans travel for the family? Mothers have traditionally been the decision-makers in this regard, but the survey found that children may also be in charge, with 36% of children aged 12 to 17 cited as the most influential members of the family when it comes to choosing an attraction.
  • To plan beforehand or wing it? According to the report, 84% of families prefer to schedule some but not all of the experience in advance.
  • When party members have different goals for the visit and thirty percent of them spend at least some time travelling in opposite directions, how can attractions foster the connection that visitors want?
  • Families exist in a variety of forms and sizes. Of those surveyed, 11% had a family member in a wheelchair, and 5% were denied ridership due to their size.
  • Visitors who identified as Black, Native American, or Hispanic had double the likelihood (12%) of reporting discrimination than non-Hispanic White visitors (6%).
  • What connection is there between family memories and landscaping? It can have a significant effect on the visitor’s experience since 15% of respondents said that their visit was badly impacted by a lack of shade.

The report is available for free here.

H2R Market Research carried out the Creating Family Memories study. 800 American leisure visitors who visited an attraction with children under the age of 18 living in the house were interviewed; the results provide a margin of error of +/-3.5% at a 95% confidence interval.

Earlier this month, PGAV announced the appointment of eight new team members at its St Louis and Orlando design studios. The firm is in a period of strong growth, and this expansion enhances its capacity to build unsurpassed travel, tourist, and entertainment destinations both in the US and around the world.
