Disney Treasure to set sail in December

The Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line‘s latest ship, has floated out to open water for the first time as it prepares to set sail in December.

Disney’s new vessel has started its journey from Germany’s Meyer Werft shipyard to the Disney Cruise Line terminal at Port Canaveral in Florida.

Yesterday (18 September), the Treasure was guided by tugboat down the Ems river towards open water. Over the next few days, the ship will go through a series of tests, known as sea trials.

The latest milestone for the Disney Treasure comes after the ship floated out of the Meyer Werft shipyard last month to dock in the harbour.

The Disney Treasure will offer experiences themed to films such as Aladdin, Coco and Zootopia, as well as experiences inspired by Disney parks attractions.

These include a Haunted Mansion bar and a Jungle Cruise-themed lounge. Another bar on the cruise ship is themed to The Aristocats and called Scat Cat Lounge.

The Treasure “will bring brand-new stories to life, blending one-of-a-kind experiences with the extraordinary entertainment, world-class dining and unparalleled hospitality that make every sailing so memorable”, said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line.

Disney Cruise Line expansion

“As we chart a course for adventure, we’re so excited for families to discover the excitement and exploration that awaits onboard the sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet,” Siskie said.

Construction on the Disney Treasure started in January 2023. The ship is part of a major expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet, which includes the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure, and a new ship to sail from Japan.

Four additional ships were announced at this year’s D23 fan event, which will bring the fleet to a total of 13.
