Boulebar offers a social experience with pétanque, music and F&B

Boulebar, a themed attraction combining the French sport pétanque with F&B, is opening its second site next month in London‘s Spitalfields.

Boulebar’s first UK location opened on London’s South Bank in June 2023. Boulebar venues offer a social experience with pétanque, food, drink and music.

Guests at the new attraction will be immersed in “the laid-back spirit of the Provence”, a press release says.

The Spitalfields venue includes a full-size pétanque area with 10 indoor courts and the finest boules, as well as a mezzanine bar, and a menu of French café and bistro fare.

Dishes include pâtés, charcuterie, cheese boards and a seafood platter, and drinks include cocktails, a variety of wines, and traditional French beverages like Crémant.

In the pétanque area, guests will feel like they are playing the game in a Marseille park as they enjoy the sights, smells and sounds of a traditional pétanque arena. Games are played with two teams per court, which compete to be the first to reach 13 points.

“With minimal equipment and with a drink in hand, it’s a wonderful, informal way to socialise and it’s quick and easy to pick up the rules and some long-lasting skills,” a press release adds.

As part of the Boulebar experience, guests can meet with pétanque experts who will walk them through the game and share championship game-play tips.

Boulebar’s European expansion

Boulebar now has 12 venues across Sweden, Denmark and the UK. The upcoming Spitalfields site will be the group’s 13th location.

Boulebar Group was founded in Stockholm, Sweden by CEO Henrik Kruse. It now includes the Boulebar Sweden, Boulebar Denmark and Boulebar UK divisions. Boulebar UK is led by CEO Alec Feakes.

In more competitive socialising news, Topgolf is expanding to Saudi Arabia with three new venues, and Lane7 plans to grow its footprint in Europe.
