Sphere Entertainment and Abu Dhabi‘s culture and tourism department have announced plans for the world’s second Sphere venue.
First launched in Las Vegas in September 2023, Sphere is the world’s largest spherical structure. Its exterior features 580,000 square feet of LED lighting. Inside, it serves as a unique entertainment destination with immersive experiences, performances and competitions.
Under the new partnership, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) will pay Sphere Entertainment a franchise initiation fee for the right to build the venue using Sphere’s proprietary designs, technology, and intellectual property.
Construction will be funded by DCT Abu Dhabi, with Sphere Entertainment’s team of experts providing services related to development, construction, and pre-opening.

“The vision for Sphere has always included a global network of venues, and today’s announcement is a significant milestone toward that goal,” said James Dolan, executive chairman and CEO of Sphere Entertainment.
“Sphere is redefining live entertainment and extending the reach of its transformative impact. We are proud to collaborate with DCT Abu Dhabi to develop Sphere in their city.”
HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said residents of the emirate will enjoy “an extraordinary new form of entertainment” at the new Sphere.
“Sphere Abu Dhabi will seamlessly integrate advanced technology with captivating storytelling, creating unforgettable memories for everyone who visits,” he added.
“New form of entertainment” in Abu Dhabi
“By embracing cutting-edge entertainment like Sphere, we’re not only elevating our global profile but also setting new standards in immersive experiences and cultural offerings.”
Via a press release, Sphere Entertainment will “maintain ongoing arrangements” with DCT Abu Dhabi after the new Sphere opens.
Designed by stadium specialist Populous, the original $2.3 billion Sphere attraction debuted in Las Vegas last year with a U2 show.
Another Sphere was proposed for Stratford, London. However, the planning application was withdrawn in January
