New attraction to include horrifying farmland ravaged by scarecrows

Universal Horror Unleashed at Area15 in Las Vegas has unveiled its scarecrow-themed haunted house ahead of opening this summer.

The new attraction will include an original story called Scarecrow: The Reaping, inspired by horrifying farmland ravaged by scarecrows.

Scarecrow: The Reaping has been a fan-favourite haunted house in Halloween Horror Nights at both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood.

It’s one of four haunted houses at Universal Horror Unleashed – a unique, year-round horror experience created by Universal Destinations & Experiences.

The remaining three are themed to Universal’s classic monsters, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer.

But back to the scarecrow-themed experience, which is inspired by 1930s Dust Bowl era when severe dust storms affected the Midwest.

Guests will find themselves in the middle of a windstorm in a barren farmland overtaken by bloodthirsty scarecrows out for revenge.

Universal’s first year-round horror experience

These scarecrows are described by Universal as “monstrous and gigantic creatures made of remnants of dried human flesh and bones of beasts, merged with burlap, root and vine”.

Next door to this haunted house will be Jack’s Alley Bar, a “circus-like hellscape where the deranged Jack the Clown and his impishly evil sidekick Chance reign”.

The spooky space will serve themed cocktails as guests enjoy acrobatic performances in a carnival atmosphere.

They will also meet Jack’s evil maniacs, a group of malicious jugglers, and fortune tellers “as terrifying chaos ensues during interactive show moments”.

Universal Horror Unleashed is Universal Destinations & Experiences’ first-ever year-round horror experience, set to open in Las Vegas on 14 August.

It will house four immersive areas and four haunted houses, as above. There will also be several themed F&B locations, and a retail outlet selling collectible merchandise.

“Universal’s rich history in the creation of the horror genre drove our desire to bring a year-round horror experience to the incredible entertainment offerings in Las Vegas,” said Page Thompson, president of new ventures at Universal Destinations & Experiences, last year.
