Universal Orlando has revealed that there will be “construction activity” in the Lost Continent area within the Islands of Adventure theme park.
A spokesperson for Universal confirmed the news to the Orlando Business Journal, after the resort filed permits to demolish nearly five acres of “theme park site” at Islands of Adventure.
“In the coming months, there will be construction activity in Lost Continent as part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments,” Kristen Smith, director of PR at Universal Orlando, told the OBJ.
The Lost Continent is one of eight themed lands at Islands of Adventure, and opened with the park in 1999. It immerses guests in a world mysterious beasts and mythical gods, and features a full-service restaurant, two quick-service F&B outlets, and gift shops.
Attractions in the Lost Continent have closed in recent years, including the Poseidon’s Fury show, which closed in 2023, and the Eighth Voyage of Sinbad stunt show, which closed in 2018.
The construction work at Islands of Adventure could be related to redeveloping Poseidon’s Fury and the Eighth Voyage of Sinbad, although Universal has not confirmed that.
According to rumours, the Lost Continent could be re-themed to intellectual properties such as Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda, or manga series One Piece.
The Lost Continent redevelopment
After opening Epic Universe in Orlando earlier this year, Universal is now working on creating a UK theme park in Bedfordshire.
Last week, the company registered a trademark for “Universal United Kingdom Resort”, which could be the name of its proposed UK resort.
This came after Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, confirmed Universal is targeting a 2031 opening for the resort.
