Christie, the global visual and audio technology company, is celebrating the opening of Xpark meets NAKED – Ocean of Light: Immersive Ocean at Xpark Aquarium in Taipei, Taiwan.
The exhibition, which launched on 28 June as part of the aquarium’s fifth anniversary celebrations, was created by NAKED, INC., an internationally renowned creative company based in Japan. It uses 22 Christie 1DLP laser projectors and content management solutions.
Powerful, reliable technology
The exhibition brings together nature, creativity, and technology to explore the concept of the ocean as a living canvas. Using oceanic projections, interactive displays, and rich visual storytelling, real marine life is combined with digital art from the NAKED OCEAN series.
Dacoms Technology, Christie’s long-time collaborator, was responsible for the projection design and systems integration of the large-scale attraction. The installation includes 15 Christie 1DLP laser projectors, with an Inspire Series DWU960ST-iS fitted with short-throw zoom lenses, GS Series DWU880-GS projectors, and six Pandoras Box Servers for real-time video playback and content processing.
Terence Lee, executive vice president, Dacoms Technology, says: “Christie’s projection and content management solutions are once again the top choice for this project, not just because of their visual performance, but also for their dependability in challenging environments.
“Xpark has used Christie solutions since its opening in 2020 and has always been impressed with their consistency. For this immersive showcase, Christie’s powerful, flexible solutions provided the confidence we needed to deliver a stunning and memorable experience.”
The projectors deliver lifelike visuals across vast curved walls and floors, immersing audiences in vibrant marine environments.
This project marks the latest Christie deployment at Xpark, and follows the initial installation of more than 60 Christie projectors (including GS Series and Captiva Series models), 20 Pandoras Box Servers, Compact Players, and Widget Designer for the aquarium’s launch.
Jason Yeo, senior sales manager, Southeast Asia and Taiwan, Christie, says: “We’re thrilled to see our technologies once again at the heart of such a forward-thinking exhibition.
“The collaboration between Xpark and NAKED, INC. pushes the boundaries of digital storytelling and environmental awareness. With Christie laser projection and content management solutions, guests are fully transported into a mesmerising underwater realm that is both visually spectacular and deeply meaningful.”
Ocean of Light: Immersive Ocean marks the first major partnership between Xpark and NAKED, INC., and follows the success of the temporary exhibition Xpark – Sea of Light Jellyfish – by NAKED, INC., in January 2025.
This second stage is significantly bigger, with almost 70% of the attraction’s indoor zones featuring digital installations designed for optimum engagement and impact.
“Designed as immersive edutainment, this exhibition is more than just a visual feast,” says Lee.
“It invites guests of all ages to explore the ocean’s diversity, ecosystems, and conservation challenges through all five senses. By combining real-world exhibits with digital art, Ocean of Light: Immersive Ocean redefines what an aquarium experience can be.”
Recently, Christie supplied over 50 Christie 1DLP laser projectors for the Ballad of Chu, a cultural tourism experience in Hubei province, China. This project marks the country’s first indoor immersive performance based on Jingchu culture, and has set a new standard for the integration of projection technology into heritage-based attractions.
