Meow Wolf to create Washington D.C. exhibition

Art collective Meow Wolf has announced a permanent installation coming to the nation’s capital: Washington, D.C.

The exhibition will be a three-level, 75,000 square foot structure located in the Fort Totten community. The unique, interactive experience will have a unique plot.

It will open in 2022.

CEO Vince Kadlubek said: “Washington, D.C. is an international cultural powerhouse and an ideal setting for the evolving Meow Wolf story universe that began with House Of Eternal Return. Our intergalactic, transmedia story is rooted in a community of underdogs who overcome ‘The Powers That Be,’ and we will have something really special for all the fellow underdogs who seek a transformative experience when we unveil the D.C. chapter.”

The Cafritz Foundation is backing the plans. The foundation is committed to improving the quality of life for residents in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area.

“One of the chief reasons we committed to Washington, D.C. is the quality of our partnership with the Cafritz Foundation. We are very honored to work with this world-class developer and foundation in a project that will focus so strongly on positive community impact.”

Jane Cafritz of the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation said: “Meow Wolf has grown beyond the innovative DIY art collective to a nationally renowned, immersive art experience. This opportunity will be an important addition to Washington, DC and the Northeast DC. As a team that has been involved in the arts for decades, we are thrilled to see that the future of the art experience will be coming to the Nation’s capital.”

Meow Wolf is a group of artists from a variety of disciplines came together just to make art. It ended up becoming, not just a creative powerhouse, but a profitable business.

In August, Meow Wolf announced a partnership with Elitch Garden to open a new art ride called Kaleidoscape in April 2019.

Kaleidoscape will take guests on an immersive and interactive experience. Motion, sound, color and also interactivity will create an immersive world around you.

Last month a new documentary called Origin Story was released, promising to shed light on how the art collective came to be.
