Therme Group, a global wellbeing organisation, has appointed Richard Land to manage its UK business as Chief Development Officer. Its new project, Therme Manchester is on track to open in 2023.
Land has extensive experience working within the UK and European construction sector. In his new role, Land will lead the group’s £250 million Therme Manchester project. He will also oversee all of Therme Group’s UK projects from inception through to operation.
A commitment to sustainability
After working for global engineering consultancy companies such as Arup and WSP, Land went on to work for a large real estate fund. He developed a large portfolio across Europe before founding his own consultancy company.
Through his company, Land delivered engineering and project management services. He is also interested in carbon usage and environmental practices. He focuses on responsible design, construction and operation, which aligns with Therme Group’s commitment to sustainability.
An “exciting time” for Therme Group
“Having worked with Therme Group as a consultant since 2015, I’m delighted to have been officially appointed as Chief Development Officer for the UK. The role will allow me to draw on each aspect of my career to take the Therme Group concept to a new level of excellence in every area, that is true to our belief in accessible wellbeing for all,” Land said.
He continued, saying “With the construction of Therme Manchester set to begin in 2021 and a number of opportunities across the UK in the pipeline, it’s a really exciting time for the business.”
New project to redefine city wellbeing

Therme Manchester on track
Therme Manchester will be the UK’s first wellbeing resort, and is expected to attract up to two million visitors a year within five years.
Construction will start next year and is still expected to open in 2023. Combining water-based activities with nature, technology, wellbeing treatments and art, the project will bring inclusive and affordable wellbeing to everyone.
For Land, the events of 2020 have shown how important it is to provide wellbeing for all, especially in cities. He explains that “Therme Manchester will redefine city wellbeing, enhancing mental and physical health through an experience based in water and nature. Therme Manchester will offer a unique holiday at home, that acts as a catalyst for healthy lifestyles.”
Trafford Council approved the plans for Therme Manchester in March 2020.
