Tinker imagineers, a leading experience design and production agency, has created the experience and audiovisual design for BBC Earth Experience in another iconic place.
This immersive attraction was developed by the firm in assignment of and together with Moon Eye Productions, Live Nation (UK) and BBC studios over two years. BBC Earth Experience enables guests to encounter the remarkable diversity of our world, as they are transported to the ocean floor, experience breathtaking drone footage, and explore the wonders of Planet Earth at a microscopic level.
The experience includes content from Seven Worlds, One Planet, a BBC series, as well as custom narration by Sir David Attenborough. It opened to visitors in London, UK, in March 2023, with a further venue launching in Melbourne, Australia, later in the year.
Inspiring sustainability
The BBC Earth Experience aims to communicate the importance of nature. The four collaborating organisations wanted to raise public awareness of the world they live in and highlight the importance of preserving it for future generations. This project aimed to emphasise the value of biodiversity and encourage people to make more environmentally conscious decisions.
Furthermore, the design prioritises sustainability by including materials that can be recycled and reused, such as cotton screens, and renewable energy-powered LED projectors.
In this experience, guests are taken on a 360-degree audio-visual adventure where they will discover famous landscapes and meet fascinating animals. They will experience the Earth’s seven spectacular continents as never before, and see sights such as the fireflies’ stunning light display in North America, snub-nosed monkeys gathering together to keep warm in Asia, and hungry hamsters as they fight to keep their food in Europe.
Cutting-edge digital screen technology is used to show the footage, which includes new material, onto several multi-angle screens. The stories are displayed concurrently on more than 60 ultra-large projections. These projection screens are positioned around the guests in three main zones. Guests can freely roam and discover the narratives from different perspectives.
In addition to the immersive main hall, the attraction also features interactive breakout rooms. One of these rooms aims to test the guests’ courage as they are invited to dive into the hidden world of insects and extraordinary creatures. Guests can use an interactive button by making a simple hand motion to set the depth of the exploration. These interactive components enhance the BBC Earth Experience by allowing visitors to actively engage in the discovery of our planet’s treasures.
Guests can also gaze out over enormous dunes and oceans and view the planet from afar at the Vista Stage. This panoramic perspective offers an unforgettable experience, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the splendour of our planet’s varied landscapes.
This innovative attraction provides visitors of all ages with a transformative experience that transports them into the natural world, enables them to explore distant locations, and invites them to lose themselves in endless wonder.
Tinker imagineers recently partnered with CERN to create displays for the new CERN Science Gateway in Switzerland, CERN’s flagship education and outreach facility. The attraction opened on 7 October and invites guests aged five and over to learn about particle physics.
