Plans are in place to build a Children’s World theme park in Espoo, Karhusaari, to open in 2025 attracting 600,000 visitors annually.

The Karhusaari Children’s World will be constructed with an investment of between 50 and 70 million euros. The attraction will be open year-round.

Project leader and playwright Taneli Heikka said: “In Karhusaari Children’s World, familiar characters and tales of children’s books come to life. The goal is to build the most fun cultural part of the world.”

The park will sit on an area of four hectares, including one new building of about 7800 square metres.

Mayor of Espoo Jukka Mäkelä said: “The children’s world is perfect for the Espoo story and growing cultural offerings. Karhusaari offers the Children’s World an excellent location with peaceful marine life, but with key transport links. The children’s world is built respectfully and sustainably. It is ideally suited to Espoo’s role as the forerunner of the United Nations sustainable development.”

The theme park is a joint effort with Lastenmaailma Säätiö (roughly Children’s World Association), the Association of Finnish Children’s Cultural Centers and marketing firm N2 Helsinki. It is estimated that it will generate an annual turnover of 12 million euros and around two million euros in profit.

In August, Amos Rex, a €50m underground art museum underneath a former bus station parking lot, opened in Helsinki.
