Genting Malaysia Bhd revealed in February that it was “putting the finishing touches” to Genting SkyWorlds, which it hoped to launch in the second quarter of 2021.
Last month, it was revealed that Genting Malaysia was “working towards” the completion of Genting SkyWorlds “in the third quarter of 2021” due to COVID-19.
However, Resorts World Genting is likely to remain closed for three months, which means the theme park is delayed until December 2021, also due to the pandemic.
COVID-19 delays Genting SkyWorlds
The delay was revealed in a note from Maybank Research (via IAG). “RWG was shut for three months from 18 March to 18 June 2020 and shut again for 25 days from 22 January to 15 February 2021,” said analyst Samuel Yin Shao Yang.
“We gather that RWG will be shut for three months this time and Genting SkyWorlds will only open in December 2021 to coincide with school holidays.”
Genting Malaysia Bhd recently released a first-look video of Genting SkyWorlds. The company has invested more than $800 million in the RWG theme park.

Genting SkyWorlds comprises nine lands, which are Eagle Mountain, Central Park, Liberty Lane, Robots Rivet Town, Andromeda Base, Ice Age, Studio Plaza, Epic, and Rio. The 26-acre attraction boasts 26 rides and attractions, from coasters to water rides.
“COVID-19 vaccination is expected to surge from June 2021 to 150,000 per day as Malaysia takes delivery of 16 million COVID-19 vaccine doses,” he added.
“This will bring down the number of new COVID-19 cases and hopefully preclude RWG from shutting going forward. RWG visitor arrivals rebounded quickly when it reopened and interstate travel was allowed in 3Q20.”
