BECK, a leading restoration and refurbishment fit-out specialist, was appointed to undertake the engineering, detailed design development, construction, and installation of the bespoke flexible displays to showcase over 100,000 artefacts – including Tutankhamun’s priceless treasure collection. Neighbouring the timeless pyramids of Giza, The Grand Egyptian Museum is now entering the latter stages of completion.
Works on this prestigious archaeological museum complex cover an enormous 15,000 square metre space which consists of 12 galleries, four immersive underground caves and nine portals called the digital streams for visitors to explore the wonders of the ancient Egyptian world.
“Preserving the past by making it accessible to future generations”
The bespoke displays supporting the immense artefacts were extremely complex and required sophisticated structural engineering to account for potential seismic activity in the area. Each display is precisely finished in Corian and PPC Sheet metal to seamlessly complement the surrounding aesthetic and minimise the impact of large structural steel members.
Tactile replica ancient models and lightboxes have been integrated into the displays with dual language graphics to explain the historical importance of the artefacts in their final setting to visitors.
“Big or small, near or far, BECK always works to the highest standards to deliver elaborate and complex museums, galleries, heritage, and cultural centres across the world”
A company representative says that BECK looks forward to sharing further updates on the Grand Egyptian Museum project in due course.
