Aquatic Development Group (ADG), a leading water park and recreational design, construction, and manufacturing firm, hosted the Senegal Surfing Federation’s first stop in the Olympic-qualifying International Surfing Association’s (ISA) World Surfing Games.
This year’s event was held in Huntington Beach, California, from 17 – 24 September 2022, where EpicSurf was an event sponsor.
The world’s best surfers, including 247 athletes from 51 different countries, have gathered in the renowned Surf City, USA, setting the wave towards Paris 2024 in motion. Top male and female surfers are vying for two additional Olympic slots, which would be the ultimate prize.
Six athletes, four coaches, Souleye Mbengue, the official ISA representative, and Omaur Seye, the vice president of the Federation and a renowned surfing icon in his own right, proudly represent the West African ISA member country.
“An honour”
Mbengue’s team accepted the surfing machine‘s challenge, with he himself acknowledging that it provides a satisfying experience, despite being the only Federation member who does not surf. “The opportunity to train and practice on EpicSurf before competing in California is an honour for my team. I’m a manager, not a surfer – I keep things organised,” he said.
Seye was the first sponsored professional surfer from Africa. He says: “This machine will help train and develop surfers in many ways, like building leg strength for turns.” Dedicated to growing Senegal’s blossoming surf industry, Seye aspires to expand his mix of lifestyle enterprises in Dakar to include a fixed wave.
Imane Signate adds: “EpicSurf is consistent and provides a place to focus and improve a surfer’s form. It’s not possible to do that in the ocean.” Signate is one of two female athletes who compete for Senegal and Dakar, the city from which most of the team members are from.
A unique wave for surfers
Following the warm-up session in New York, the team headed to the west coast to offer EpicSurf as a platform for training and development to the world of surfing. Real surfing is now attainable in more locations with EpicSurf, the first stationary surf wave of its kind made in the USA.
Every surfer’s skill level, ability, and choice of surf, skim, or bodyboard are taken into account when shaping and perfecting the waves. EpicSurf offers a reliable cross-training platform for improving turns, getting the most reps, mastering moves, and developing strength, whether the user is a beginner or an expert surfer getting ready for a competition.
ADG recently collaborated with a team of expert disability advocates to develop wider user availability for the company’s range of surfing products.
