Aquatic Development Group (ADG), a leading water park and recreational design, construction, and manufacturing firm, has detailed its latest water park project work for Prairiewood Leisure Centre.
Opening in 2016, Aquatopia Water Park initially comprised a large splash pad, a ten-meter waterslide tower, a large aquatic play structure, four body slides, a toddler pool, a surf machine and cabanas.
Following its successful opening Aquatopia has received a number of investments incorporating a new twenty-meter slide tower, a three-lane headfirst racer slide, a free-fall slide and Looping Rocket, a trap-door style slide.
COVID strikes
Soon after the new slides, the waterpark was again ready for expansion, a project which began in 2019 but was then delayed by the pandemic until two years later.
For this expansion, the waterpark decided to diversify with boogie boarding and a learn to surf wave pool. Aquatic Development Group was brought in for its expertise with wave system innovations, creating what the firm says is the only wave pool on the market purposely designed and constructed to employ the three distinct wave applications of boogie boarding, learn-to-surf and recreational waves.
The team negotiated other challenges including the bathymetry for a small pool and a request for the pool to accommodate learn-to-swim education programs. Swimplex Aquatics was engaged to help build, working within a limited site plan, with the challenge of constructing a multi-programmable wave pool within a compact footprint of only 40-meters in length.
Making waves
To create the wave system, ADG developed an enriched version of its existing Breaker Beach boogie boarding pool to create the wave system. To ensure precise wave performance and timing, the firm utilises a pneumatic computerized wave technology application, enabling operators to effortlessly tailor the waves for its audience. For example, providing shorter wave intervals for recreational waves, and longer intervals for boogie boarding and learn-to-surf.
As a result of pandemic travel restrictions, for the majority of the project ADG’s wave engineers were not able to be present on-site. As a result, most of the work between ADG, Swimplex and the on-location Aquatopia team was conducted through remote technologies.
Mayor Carbone says: “Fairfield City has invested in providing affordable activities for families. Aquatopia is a fun and affordable day out for residents and their friends and family and has become a must-visit for families from western Sydney and beyond.
“With the addition of breaking waves, visitors can enjoy a day at the beach without the travel. It is the fun, affordable and safe way for families to stay cool and active in the warmer months.”
In March, ADG announced it will be involved in the design and construction of water features for Roaring Springs waterpark in Meridian, Idaho, US.
