Aquatic Development Group groundbreaking OKANA Resort

The firm will help deliver an indoor waterpark for the complex

Aquatic Development Group (ADG), a leading water park and recreational design, construction and manufacturing firm, has announced that groundbreaking on a major new resort and waterpark has commenced in the US.

ADG was part of Chickasaw Nation’s groundbreaking ceremony for a new 140-acre project, as the designer and builder of the site’s aquatic amenities, and a contributor to the master planning and design process for the entire resort.

“The uniqueness of the resort will bring tourism and enhance the experience for visitors from around the world, after its 2025 completion,” says the firm.

An eleven-story, 404-room hotel with views of the river, the city skyline, and an outdoor lagoon will become the centrepiece of this one-of-a-kind development. The two-story indoor waterpark will have a wave pool, action rivers, an indoor/outdoor pool, and water slides.

Acknowledging cultural heritage

When the Chickasaw tribe reached a deal with Oklahoma City to finish the cultural centre in 2015, following state legislators’ attempts to cancel the project, that was when the tribe first had the idea to develop the area surrounding the First Americans Museum.

The venture, formally known as OKANA Resort & Indoor Waterpark, is intended to turn the riverfront into a popular tourist destination, according to Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby.

“With this world-class First Americans Museum now in operation, we are ready to turn our focus to what we believe will be another significant tourism and hospitality venue,” says the official. “It is our vision that the OKANA Resort will enhance the experience for visitors from not only our region but across North America and around the world.”

An international draw

The First Americans Museum and the OKANA development, according to Mayor David Holt, an Osage Nation member himself, would turn Oklahoma City into a major centre for Native American and Indigenous history, culture, and trade on a national and international scale:

“You have this amazing museum, a $175 million investment, Smithsonian level – it is one of a kind – and the only thing that rivals it is the Native American museum at the National Mall. To have something this unique is an international draw that will bring people in from all over the world.”

ADG has been offering design/build and equipment services to more than 4,000 aquatic facilities worldwide for more than 50 years. The North American company continues to deliver accessible experiences around the world, including its inclusive EpicSurf product at venues in the artificial surf sector.
