Water Park trends with Alan Mahony at the Festival of Innovation

Our guest speaker, Alan Mahony, will be discussing innovation throughout his long career and will also be looking into the future and highlighting key industry trends.

Alan Mahony is the executive director, attractions at Saudi Entertainment Ventures (SEVEN). He started in the attractions industry at Wet’n’Wild Waterworld Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia back in the mid-eighties, before moving on to lead the development and operations of the world’s first Warner Bros. Movie World park, on the Gold Coast of Australia.

Mahony moved to Asia in 1996 to develop and operate one of China’s leading water parks, then during the following 25 years in Asia, developed and operated leading projects including Chimelong Water Park and Beijing Watercube Waterpark in China, Sunway Lagoon in Malaysia and Aquaventure and the Lost Chambers Aquarium at Atlantis Sanya.

Mahony implemented successful strategies to ensure positive trading during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in record attendance for Atlantis Sanya and revenue growth.

It was good fun and it’s great to see what the new innovations were. So it was it was almost like sitting in 20 meetings in one day. It was amazing.

The winners of the Splash innovation awards will be announced during this Festival of Innovation session.

The blooloop Innovation Awards 2022, presented with AREA15, showcase the incredible dynamism, imagination and creativity that drive the attractions business. Our judges are well-known thought leaders and industry experts, who have identified the most innovative products and projects driving the future of the visitor experience.

The Innovation Awards will be announced throughout the Festival of Innovation. Attendees will be able to browse the entries themselves and take part in the Public Vote Award. In addition, a selection of our judges and industry leaders will be talking about exciting new trends, and operators will share what innovations they are looking for to help them drive forward visitor experiences.
