Disney World has finally announced an opening date for TRON Lightcycle / Run. The new coaster launches at Magic Kingdom on 4 April.
TRON Lightcycle / Run will be the fastest Vekoma roller coaster at Magic Kingdom, and one of the fastest coasters at any Disney theme park in the world.
Shanghai Disneyland is home to a similar attraction, Tron Lightcycle Power Run, which launched on the park’s opening day in 2016.
“I’ve had the chance to ride our sister attraction in Shanghai Disneyland and I can tell you we are in for an amazing new addition to the Walt Disney World coaster family,” said Imagineering‘s Disney World site portfolio executive Zach Riddley.

Located in Tomorrowland, the roller coaster features a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles and enjoy a race through the ‘digital frontier’.
The storyline for TRON Lightcycle / Run picks up after 2010 film Tron: Legacy, where Kevin’s son, Sam Flynn, has opened a second gateway into a digital realm called the Grid. The first of these portals is at Shanghai Disneyland.
When guests enter the queue at Magic Kingdom, they will feel like they have been digitised and transported to the Grid for a Lightcycle race. The goal is to be the first team to race through eight Energy Gates.

“When you enter the attraction’s queue, you’ll feel as if you’re digitized and entering the Grid for a special Lightcycle race alongside your family and friends,” said Imagineering’s portfolio creative executive Chris Beatty.
“You’ll all join Team Blue for a high-speed launch into a competition against Team Orange,” he added.
Meanwhile, Disney has shared another look at the new Moana-themed Journey of Water walk-through experience coming to Epcot in late 2023.
Magic Kingdom’s Walt Disney World Railroad is also open the first time since 2018.
