Sandbox VR is launching Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire, a replayable virtual reality (VR) game with multiple storylines.
Opening from 9 June, the immersive adventure was created by industry veterans. It was directed by Michael Hampden, former lead designer on the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
It also included team members who have worked on video games including Far Cry 6, Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher franchise, and Battlefield 2142.
“It’s a unique challenge developing a fantasy IP for location-based VR,” said Hampden, Sandbox VR’s vice president of content and creative director.
Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire
“There’s a reason why there isn’t anything like Dragonfire available out there, because so many features have to be designed from the ground up.
“Melee combat, magic weapons and spells, unlockable items, and choosing where to go next are just a few of the new features we have added to make this perhaps the deepest and most replayable location-based VR experience yet.”
In the new game, players become a band of adventurers who battle enemies with swords, axes, bows and magic.
They travel through a magical castle, and explore spaces including a ruined fortress, a haunted tomb, an underground river, and the dragon’s tower.
“With each experience we create, our goal is to push ourselves to invent new ways to immerse players in virtual worlds,” said Steve Zhao, CEO of Sandbox VR.

“Dragonfire is the first Sandbox VR experience to feature branching storylines – meaning that guests can play the experience multiple times and have an entirely new adventure.
“This ups the stakes for players and we hope they’ll return again and again.”
Sandbox VR now boasts more than 35 locations across the world, including 12 venues opened in the last year.
Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire will be followed by Sandbox VR’s new Squid Game-themed VR experience, due to open in late 2023.
Players will find themselves in iconic locations from the Korean TV series, where they become contestants in challenges inspired by the Netflix survival drama.
