Toverland, an amusement park in the Netherlands, is opening its €11.5 million Avalon expansion on 1 July.
The park’s fantasy-themed Avalon area is growing to offer four new family-friendly attractions, as well as two new play areas and more interactive experiences.
Inspired by the legend of King Arthur, Avalon first opened in 2018 with Fénix, a €17m Bolliger & Mabillard coaster with three inversions.
The magical zone also includes the Merlin’s Quest boat ride, the Flaming Feather restaurant, and a play area called Arthur’s Tournament Training.
This summer, the area will be home to Dragonwatch, a family-friendly drop tower, and Pixarus, a pendulum ride situated in the middle of the helix of the Fénix coaster.
Additionally, Avalon will offer the Jumping Juna carousel attraction and Garden Tour, which takes guests on a tour though Merlin’s magical herb garden.
New family-friendly rides
“With this expansion, we allow the story of medieval-themed area Avalon to continue,” said Peter van Holsteijn, head designer at Toverland. “We wanted to make it more complete for the entire family.
“We are achieving this – not only by adding new attractions – but also by introducing new viewing scenes and new characters, including friendly fire dragons and Juna the unicorn.
“Our smaller guests can also go on a discovery tour in a splashing water play area and a colourful toddler playground.”

Located in Sevenum, Toverland contains six themed areas featuring 35 attractions and shows, including Troy – the fastest, longest and tallest wooden roller coaster in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
“The Troy roller coaster is, nowadays, still one of the best,” Jean Gelissen Jr, general manager of Toverland, told blooloop. “If you’re a roller coaster enthusiast, one day you’ll have to ride Troy.”
Last year, Toverland broke its own attendance record after welcoming its millionth visitor. Construction on the Avalon expansion started in September last year.
