Following the weekend’s launch of SeaWorld Orlando‘s new Pipeline surfing-style roller coaster, SeaWorld San Diego has announced an opening date for its new Arctic Rescue ride.
Arctic Rescue, the fastest and longest straddle coaster on the West Coast, debuts on 2 June. Guests will ride in snowmobile-style vehicles as they attempt to rescue Arctic animals.
Manufactured by Intamin, the new family-friendly thrill ride features three launches and maximum speeds of 40 miles per hour across 2,800 feet of track.
Ahead of the launch, SeaWorld San Diego has released an on-ride, front row POV video for Arctic Rescue, which you can watch above.
Arctic Rescue is SeaWorld San Diego’s sixth roller coaster. It joins Emperor, California’s tallest, fastest and longest dive coaster, which opened in 2022.
Meanwhile, SeaWorld Orlando has opened its seventh roller coaster. Pipeline: The Surf Coaster has unique surfboard-style ride vehicles to give the sensation of riding on a wave.
New surfing coaster opens in Florida
“It’s sleek, it’s strong. It’s powerful. But why is it so cool? It mimics the motion of the ocean. You feel the power of the waves,” said Rob McNicholas, SeaWorld Orlando’s vice president of operations (via ClickOrlando).
“The wave time, airtime motion is ridiculous and this is the coolest experience I’ve ever had on a roller coaster, truthfully, but you’ll see it for yourself.”
Made by Bolliger & Mabillard, the new coaster boasts five airtime moments and speeds of up to 60 mph. It also includes an innovative ‘wave curl’ inversion.

Elsewhere, Busch Gardens Williamsburg has launched its new DarKoaster, described as North America’s first all-indoor straddle coaster.
“As an indoor attraction, DarKoaster complements our collection of thrill rides and offers a new experience to enjoy throughout the year,” said park president Kevin Lembke.
Additionally, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi has made its debut on Yas Island.
