SEGD (the Society for Experiential Graphic Design), a multidisciplinary global community of professionals, has announced the schedule for its 2023 conference, the 50th Anniversary Experience Washington DC.
The event will take place at the Grand Hyatt Washington, 23 – 26 August 2023. The theme for this year’s SEGD conference is Reflect, Reframe, and Reignite.
Tickets are available to book here.
Look both ways
Experience Design has developed over the past half-century from experiential graphic design to a fully interdisciplinary approach. The field incorporates designers, content creators, interaction and information specialists, architects, fabricators, and more, in building content-rich experiences.
SEGD’s 50th anniversary will joyfully celebrate the present moment by honouring the industry’s heritage and looking forward to the next stage in its evolution, inviting delegates to “look both ways”.
The conference is presented in partnership with Color-ad Signs and Exhibits, Nanolumens and Pentagram, with chairs L’Rai Arthur-Mensah from Local Projects, Alexey Ikonomou from Ashton Design, and Cybelle Jones, SEGD CEO.
Jones says: “The SEGD Anniversary conference in DC will be the largest historical gathering of SEGD members, Fellows and students in our 50 years. It is a not-to-be-missed event full of interactive sessions and networking opportunities across generations and disciplines, and a celebration of all things experience design!”
Reflect, reframe, and reignite
The conference programme features over 50 speakers, with 12 tours and pre-conference workshops. Delegates can also enjoy local studio visits, an SEGD bookstore, merchandise, and ample networking opportunities.
The conference theme Reflect, Reframe, and Reignite will be explored by speakers including:
- SEGD fellows and founders Rich Burns and John Berry
- Michael Gericke, FSEGD, Pentagram
- Llisa Demetrios, chief curator of the Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity
- Chloe Louvouezo, senior communications officer, global creative content, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Washington, DC, Mayor’s Commission for Women

SEGD hosted Branded Environments and Xlab in October 2022. The two-day event provided two days of thought-provoking talks to coincide with New York Digital Signage Week. Speakers included designer, educator and author, Richard Poulin, who spoke on Rudolph de Harak, and a panel discussion on the The Magic of Las Vegas.
