Disney to bring Moana’s story to the stage for the first time

Disney Cruise Line‘s new ship, the Disney Treasure, will feature an original Broadway-style show based on Disney’s animated film Moana.

Setting sail from Port Canaveral, Florida in December 2024, the latest ship will offer experiences inspired by films such as AladdinCoco and Zootopia.

As for the Disney Treasure’s shows, Disney: The Tale of Moana will join Beauty and the Beast and Disney Seas the Adventure.

According to the Disney Parks Blog, the production will debut exclusively in the ships’s theatre and “will bring the adventurous journey of Moana… to center stage for the first time”.

The show will follow Moana “as she embarks on an incredible journey to save her island after she is chosen by the ocean to restore the heart of Te Fiti”, Disney added.

It will feature characters such as Gramma Tala, Maui and Tamatoa, as well as songs from the film’s iconic soundtrack.

As revealed last month, for the first time at Disney Cruise Line, the Treasure will offer several attractions inspired by Disney parks experiences.

Skipper Society is a themed lounge that will bring the iconic Jungle Cruise attraction to sea, while Periscope Pub is based on the 1954 film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and the former Walt Disney World attraction. The ship’s Tomorrow Tower Suite is themed to Epcot‘s World Discovery neighbourhood.

The Treasure “will bring brand-new stories to life, blending one-of-a-kind experiences with the extraordinary entertainment, world-class dining and unparalleled hospitality that make every sailing so memorable”, said Sharon Siskie, senior vice president and general manager, Disney Cruise Line.

“As we chart a course for adventure, we’re so excited for families to discover the excitement and exploration that awaits onboard the sixth ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.”

Casting directors at Disney Cruise Line are set to start looking for performers for Disney: The Tale of Moana.
