Matt’s influence on the trajectory of Meow Wolf cannot be overstated”

Meow Wolf Grapevine, also known as The Real Unreal, has announced the opening of the Matt King Mystery Center, a community space for art and creativity.

Located within the new Meow Wolf location, the multipurpose space will host community events and is dedicated to the late Matt King, a Meow Wolf co-founder and artist.

King served as the company’s senior vice president of creative direction. He was a driving force and lead artist in around 34 Meow Wolf projects leading up to the launch of Santa Fe’s House of Eternal Return.

Between 2018 and 2021, King contributed to the opening of Omega Mart at Area15 in Las Vegas, the Kaleidoscape dark ride at Denver’s Elitch Gardens, and Convergence Station in Colorado.

“Matt’s influence on the trajectory of Meow Wolf cannot be overstated. He was a compass,” Meow Wolf said in a press release.

“The Matt King Mystery Center is a creative haven within the exhibition, reflecting his profound impact on Meow Wolf and his love for teaching others the joy of art and collaboration.

“The name Mystery Center is an homage to his lifelong studies in philosophy, magic, esoteric religious traditions, mythology, and science fiction.”

Meow Wolf Grapevine‘s general manager Kelly Schwartz said the new centre is “not just a venue; it’s a community canvas for creativity and a perfect setting for our guests to enhance their visit”.

“Through a focus on creativity and collaboration, our aim is to establish a place that goes beyond the conventional, positively impacting the Dallas-Fort Worth community.”

Last week, Meow Wolf announced the appointment of former Disney executive Rebecca Campbell to its board of directors.
