Legoland Windsor has launched the first-ever checkout-free shop in a European theme park, now open for the 2024 season.
Duplo Coffee Co, located in the park’s Duplo Valley, utilises Zippin’s AI-powered platform, which uses machine learning and sensor fusion technology.
The store, which was converted into a Zippin-powered venue, allows visitors to buy sandwiches, snacks, coffee and other drinks without queuing.
Customers can enter with a credit card or mobile wallet, pick up what they want to eat or drink, and zip out. They are automatically billed as they exit.

Helen Milligan-Smith, CEO of Aramark UK, one of Merlin Entertainments’ F&B partners, said: “At Aramark UK, we are committed to elevating the customer experience.
“The adoption of this autonomous approach helps meet the needs of guests who want to make the most of their visit to the theme park.
“We look forward to seeing how visitors respond to this new format.”
Morgan Edwards, hotel and commercial director at Legoland Windsor, said the “cutting-edge concept aligns perfectly with our commitment to providing an exceptional guest experience”.
Krishna Motukuri, CEO and co-founder of Zippin, added: “Zippin makes a lot of sense for theme parks that attract thousands of guests per day
Autonomous approach
“High-traffic retailers that convert their traditional stores to Zippin technology often see revenue increases of 78 percent or more.
“Perhaps more importantly, visitors can enjoy the park’s dining options without waiting in line, so they have more time to ride rides, see shows, and do more during their park visit.”
Last year, Six Flags Magic Mountain in California opened an Amazon-powered cashierless shop. The Quick 6 concept store first debuted at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.
In more news, Merlin Entertainments’ first carbon neutral accommodation is opening at Legoland Windsor this weekend.
