Universal Orlando’s new DreamWorks land is open, with the first visitors enjoying a colourful world inspired by Shrek, Trolls and Kung Fu Panda.
The new DreamWorks Land at Universal Studios Florida is home to rides and attractions, character meet and greets, interactive play areas, and a live show.
In the Shrek-themed area, guests can explore the ogre’s swamp, eat ‘Shrekzels’ from ‘Swamp Snacks’, and meet Shrek, Princess Fiona and Donkey.
Highlights here also include an experience based on Puss in Boots 2: The Last Wish, and an interactive attraction called ‘King Harold’s Swamp Symphony’.

In the Trolls area, ‘Poppy’s Playground’ is a new play space, ‘High Five Hideaway’ is a retail outlet selling DreamWorks merchandise, and the ‘Trollercoaster’ is a Caterbus-style attraction.
As for Kung Fu Panda offerings, ‘Po Kung Fu Training Camp’ is a play area based on the Panda Village, and ‘Po Live!’ is a digital experience.
DreamWorks Land also features a multi-sensory show in the new DreamWorks Theater called ‘Imagination Celebration’. This combines pop songs, dancing and advanced technology.
Universal Creative’s Dean Orion said last month: “We have so much interactivity, there are shows, there are meet and greets, it really brings the DreamWorks characters to life.”
Immersive experiences for kids
In addition to the DreamWorks land, Universal is building a new family-friendly resort in Frisco, Texas. Universal Kids Resort will include a a 300-room themed hotel and a theme park.
“Universal Kids Resort will inspire the unbridled creativity of kids through imagination, discovery and most importantly – play,” said Molly Murphy, president of Universal Creative.
Universal’s new DreamWorks Land and family resort are part of a growing trend for immersive location-based entertainment for children.
