Guests will enjoy fossil digging, VR experiences and immersive exhibits

The Edelman Fossil Park & Museum has set its opening date for March 2025. Guests will enjoy an immersive exploration of dinosaurs and other prehistoric species.

The museum is part of Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey – close to Philadelphia. The region is known for its rich paleontological significance, and the museum is situated above an active research quarry.

Here, more than 100,000 fossils from more than 100 species – including mosasaurs, marine crocodiles, sea turtles and sharks – have been unearthed.

“The opening of Edelman Fossil Park & Museum marks a momentous occasion for our region and for visitors from around the world. This is not just a museum – it’s a gateway to a breathtaking chapter of Earth’s history,” said Kenneth Lacovara, founding executive director of the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum.

“Here, we open a window onto the profound and pivotal events of the fifth mass extinction, during which the dinosaurs and 75 percent of species perished, shaping the modern world as we know it,” Lacovara added.

“The fossils unearthed here tell the epic story of life’s fragility and resilience, weaving a cautionary tale that frames our present challenges and provides a roadmap towards a more sustainable tomorrow.”

World-class dinosaur museum

Described as a world-class museum for dinosaur lovers, the institution will include fossil digging and VR experiences, immersive exhibits, and an interactive fossil hunt powered by RFID technology.

Of course, the new attraction will showcase state-of-the-art reconstructions of dinosaurs and their environments. It also includes a shop, F&B outlet, and paleontology-themed playground.

The museum is designed with sustainability at its core, featuring geothermal and electric systems that significantly reduce its carbon footprint.

The design team is made up of Ennead Architects, KSS Architects and G&A, along with landscape designers Seed Design and Yaki Miodovnik.
