Disney is expanding its fleet to offer a total of 13 cruise ships

Disney Cruise Line has shared new information about its expansion, specifically the four additional ships joining the fleet between 2027 and 2031.

First revealed at last year’s D23 fan event, the four ships will include three vessels in a new and smaller ship class, and a new addition to the existing Wish class.

As we already know, the Disney Cruise Line expansion includes the new Disney Treasure, as well as the Disney Adventure, the Disney Destiny, a new ship to sail from Japan, and the four extra vessels.

With the addition of the Treasure, Disney Cruise Line has six ships. When its expansion is completed, the fleet will include a total of 13 ships.

Of the four additional vessels, one will be part of the Wish class, and therefore a sister ship to the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny.

The ship, set for delivery in 2027, will be approximately 144,000 gross tonnes, accommodate 4,000 guests, and be powered by liquefied natural gas.

The remaining three will be smaller than the Disney Wish and Dream classes in order for the cruise line to reach its environmental goals. They will be able to carry 3,000 guests and measure around 100,000 gross tonnes.

The three new ships will be 20 percent larger than the Disney Magic class, however. This includes the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder.

By comparison, the Disney Dream, the Disney Wish, the Disney Fantasy, and the Disney Treasure can accommodate 4,000 passengers.

Constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany and designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, the new vessels will be the lightest cruise ships of their size in the industry.

They will be energy efficient, saving fuel with a streamlined hull, next-generation power, and propulsion systems.

“As we expand our fleet, it is important that we continue to provide a variety of experiences for our guests. Families enjoy the diversity of vacations we offer, from our classic vessels to our Wish-class ships,” said Thomas Mazloum, president of new experiences portfolio and Disney signature experiences.

“They also expect to explore a broad range of destinations, including those that prefer to host smaller ships,” he added.

“At the same time, we are focused on implementing new technology and designs that align with our longstanding commitment to the environment.”

The three smaller ships are planned for delivery in 2029, 2030 and 2031.
