Red Sea Global, the developer behind two regenerative tourism destinations in Saudi Arabia, has opened its Botanica nursery to visitors.
Botanica is an 1.8 million-square-metre nursery responsible for growing more than 7 million plants to date at Red Sea Global’s destinations – Amaala and The Red Sea.
Previously known as the Red Sea Landscape Nursery and operational since 2020, Botanica is the largest nursery of its kind in the region
The nursery is now offering nature-based experiences to guests for the first time, immersing them in Red Sea Global’s sustainability and biodiversity efforts.
Visitors can tour the facility, learn about native plant cultivation, and take part in planting activities that directly support local environmental regeneration.
Additional experiences at Botanica include a garden shop, a tropical zone, and the Botanica Café.
“Botanica is more than just a nursery – it’s a step towards regenerating Saudi Arabia’s rich biodiversity,” said John Pagano, group CEO of Red Sea Global.
Regenerative tourism in Saudi Arabia
“After providing us with more than 7 million plants for landscaping our destinations, the nursery now becomes our first guest experience that caters uniquely to the Red Sea Global DNA of regenerative tourism.
“Visitors have the opportunity to enjoy immersive, hands-on experiences that reconnect them with nature.”
Around 400 people are employed at the nursery, with 25 percent coming from the local community.
Through regenerative tourism, developers aim to contribute to the restoration and enhancement of destinations and their local communities.
“We’re doing this by enhancing our habitats. We’re planting mangroves, seeding seagrass, working on coral regeneration projects, and improving the land vegetation,” Lindsay Madden-Nadeau, senior director of wellness strategy at Red Sea Global, told blooloop.
“In addition, we have conservation projects that we’re embedding into the visitor experience.”
The Red Sea welcomed its first guests in 2023 and has five hotels open. Upon completion in 2030, it will boast 50 resorts, as well as luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment experiences, and F&B.
Red Sea Global is also making progress on its Amaala wellness destination, with contracts worth more than $6 billion awarded to date.
